About Our Church

Parsippany Baptist Church was founded in April of 1965 under the ministry of Pastor Jack Keep, presently the pastor of Evangel Baptist Church in Dale City, Virginia. Pastor Keep had a great burden to reach northern New Jersey with the good news about Jesus Christ. The church began with a small group of believers meeting with this missionary. The church grew quickly, and soon a Christian school was added. God's blessing on the church was evident. Over her thirty-five year history, Parsippany Baptist Church became known for her strong stand for the truth of the Bible and solid Bible preaching and teaching became her trademarks. Dr. David Nettleton succeeded Pastor Keep, followed by Dr. L. Duane Brown. Pastor Alan Brown now serves as the senior pastor of the church. Parsippany Baptist Church remains committed to the sole authority of the Bible for all matters of our faith and our daily living.

With Whom Do We Associate?

Just as one's friends reveal a great deal about one's character, so a church's associations speak volumes about its doctrinal position. Parsippany Baptist Church is independent. Any associations we have are voluntary and loose-knit, our loyalty remains to the Lord Jesus Christ. Our doctrinal position is similar to the Independent Baptist Fellowship of North America. Our church associates with other churches the Garden State Association of Regular Baptist Churches. We enjoy fellowship with other churches whose desire is also to honor the Lord in all that we do and believe.

Why Are We Baptist?

No denomination is perfect and no man-made religious system will enable a person to go to heaven. Nevertheless the doctrines that we believe the Bible teaches most closely resemble the doctrines that are historically common to the Baptist position. Thus we are not ashamed to call ourselves Baptists-not because this makes us perfect and all others flawed, but because it identifies some of our basic doctrines as a church. Here are the Baptist distinctives:

Biblical Authority
2 Timothy. 3:16; 1 Corinthians. 14:37
The Bible is our only authority for faith and practice.
Autonomy of the local Church
Acts 15; Acts 6:1-7
Each local assembly is self-governed without the direction or control of church hierarchy or convention.
Priesthood of the believers
Hebrews 10:19-22; 1 Peter 2:9
Each believer is privileged to come to God individually without human or saintly intervention.
Two ordinances
1 Corinthians 11:23-32; Acts 8:12,38
Two commands issued and instituted by Christ to His Church that are to be obeyed, are Believer's Baptism and Communion at the Lord's Table.
Individual soul liberty
John 4:1-29; Romans 14:5-12
Every person has the right to worship God in accordance with his conscience without coercion.
Saved and baptized church membership
Acts 2:41-47
Church membership is open to all who have exhibited repentance towards God, exercised faith in Christ, and have been baptized by immersion.
Two offices
1 Timothy 3; Titus 1
The Lord has established the offices of Pastor and Deacon to minister to His flock.
Separation of Church and state
Matthew 22:15-22
The Lord has established the state to administer civil, secular government, and the church to minister to man's spiritual needs, and that the two are separate entities never to be combined.

Why Are We Conservative?

Throughout the Bible God commands His people to be separate from the world in their lifestyle. Our church seeks to honor God, and therefore we have no interest in following the methods or motives or even the music that is typical of the world. We want to please the Lord, rather than men, in all that we do. We believe you will find our services refreshingly conservative and honoring to Christ.
