Designed as a men's discipleship program, this unique ministry offers men a special time of Bible study and prayer in a setting of fellowship. Our men meet at Paul's Diner on Route 46 East in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey on Fridays at the "heavenly hour" of 5:30 a.m. (so named by our group since it certainly is an "unearthly" hour!). This gathering is normally held on a weekly basis, but check the weekly calendar of events for exceptions due to Pastor Brown's travel and conference schedule that occasionally takes him out of town. Although the short time we spend together is full of instruction from the Bible and prayer, we also have time to enjoy a laugh or two over a good breakfast.
Some of the highlights on topics we have been studying are submitting to authority within the home, church, work, and government. Ephesians 5 & 6 was our text in which we had many good discussions on ways to strengthen our relationships within our own home. Pastor Brown points out that a strong church comes from strong homes in which each member submits to proper biblical authority. As believers within a local church we bear an awesome responsibility to one another to encourage, be kind to, submit, and love one another.
We have studied the book of Colossians in which the author, Paul, speaks to believers on the deity of Christ and our position we have in Him as children of God. Paul writes against the heresy of Gnosticism, the teaching that promised a secret knowledge of the divine realm by tapping into the divine element in humanity through knowledge. In Colossians 1:9 Paul writes, "that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding." We as believers can know God's will in our lives by simple obedience to His Word. Now that we have received Christ, we are instructed to be rooted, built-up, and established in Him, which is a progression of continued spiritual growth in our lives.
Pastor Brown has given us great insight into God's Word and this ministry has been a blessing to all those who attend. For those of you who have not yet attended, not only are you missing out, you may be getting a visit from Victor!
